Water and your Skin

The scary importance of water. Oh yeah, you  heard right. It amazes me and freaks me out on how important water is to our health and our skin. I always come across clients who show they have oily skin, based on their pore size, however are suffering from dry skin. When I see that, I automatically know--- they’re dehydrated. See everything in our body requires water to work at it’s best. We after all made mostly of water, so we need to put water into our bodies. Water hydrates our organs, skin and transports all our nutrients throughout our body. You can take all the vitamins you want and it can be useless if it doesn’t get to it’s intended locations.
When we drink any amount of water, our organs get to it first. When we don’t consume enough or any at that our organs take it from other sources i.e our skin! So if we aren’t drinking our required amount, our skin suffers. Texture, look, integrity, our collagen all of it suffers. That is why it is so important to hydrate ourselves. But you can’t just drink a glass or two. Remember, your organs get the first supply, so you will have to compensate. Drink enough for your body and more for your skin. The rule is to take your weight, divide by 2 and that will the amount of water in ounces you need. I know that sounds like a lot, but I like to think to myself that it’s only 4-5 bottles of water. It does also have to be pure water. If you add flavors or add ons (such s MiO), your body will not process it as water. The best way to add flavor to your water is to add fresh fruit. Cucumber, cherries, lemon are all fabulous ways to zest up your water.
While it sounds like a hard task (trust me, I have a hard time with this too), the benefits are well worth it. If you have oily skin, the more hydrated you are the more your oil production stays in check. See your skin has a water/oil balance. When you have oily skin, you produce too much oil and not enough water. When your skin is not moisturized properly or you are dehydrated, your brain gets a signal to create more oil to lubricate your  face. Sufficient water intake can help manage that. If you have dry skin, you are not producing enough oil. Again the proper moisturizer and water intake can assist in keeping your skin soft and supple, which can ward off premature signs of aging.
Take it day by day my loves.  Take comfort in knowing that this is the most simple thing you can do to give yourself the best skin you ever had. Everything you do to your face will be enhanced to it’s fullest.
Stay Fabulous, Fierce & Hydrated! ~~~ XoXo MiMi
